Bart Butler grew up in the violent streets of Northeast Washington DC in the 70’s & 80’s and lost 3 brothers to violence, yet built a successful “mini real estate empire” – only to lose everything in the 2008 real estate collapse.
When many would have quit, Bart persevered, working 7 long years to remake himself. Now he & his wife own 6 businesses, including My Real Estate Mart, a web-based company that connects people seeking real estate services with those who provide them, and Baltimore Urban Renewal, which purchases distressed properties and rehabilitates them to uplift neighborhoods.
He’s also on my alma mater Virginia Tech’s Apex Center for Entrepreneurship advisory board.
Bart says, “it just seemed like running a business was easy compared to the stuff I dealt with growing up, so the worst thing that could happen was, ‘You know, it didn’t make it.’ ”
His book Redemption: Grace Extended and The Real Price of Success, shares his story with the world and helps fund a scholarship he’s endowed to benefit qualified students from the Washington, D.C.-Baltimore corridor
