Hey! You know those old maps that say “here thar be monsters”?

That might be your business! Every platform that you’re on is a potential monster that could come up and bite you in the butt.

I know you’re going, “what the heck are you talking about, Lisa?” I’m going to give you a couple of examples…

A few years ago when Facebook changed the way they displayed business posts in the news feed – they cut them out because they wanted businesses to buy ads – what happened is literally overnight there were businesses that collapsed.

Their entire business model had been built around their Facebook page and all of a sudden they had no way to reach their customers. By the time a lot of those businesses could figure it out they went under because they just couldn’t make it.

Another example: in 2016 there was a guy who had been using Blogger for 14 years, so he had a website with 14 years of content.

He gets up one day, NO WEBSITE. He found out that they had deleted his entire site!

They said that it was due to violations but they never gave him any warning and they never told him what the violations were.

He even hired lawyers and wasn’t able to get his content back. Okay fine, you cut off my site – let me get my content! Nope, couldn’t get it.

Everybody goes, “yeah, you own your email list.” You do, but if the email marketing platform goes away, sorry, there goes your list! Unless you have a backup of the list. But there also goes your entire archive of newsletters if you care anything about that.

I want you to go make a list of every single app that you’re using, every single platform, every single anything software that you’re using, that might be that monster that could come up and kick you in the butt – or bite you in the butt.

You need to have a backup plan for everything you do, a risk assessment of your business today so you don’t find yourself in the water full of those monsters.
