Bryan Daniels, founder of All Good Granola Bars, started out making his bars from leftover grains used in his homebrewed beer – just because they smelled so good.
“So we were throwing it away basically every time we’re done with it and kind of moving on. But it got to the point where I was like, I’ll just take a bag of this stuff home.
And so I took the spent grain home and tried to figure out what to do with it next.
I dried it out, which I figured that was the first step, and then I made a batch of granola bars from it based on a recipe that I saw and it came out horribly.
So, not really edible at all but I didn’t give up.
The next time around, they made a batch and I did the same thing, and tweaked a few things, and finally made something that was decent and edible.
This was when I was still working at Anthem so I would take the granola bars into my job there and had a little jar on my desk, and people would come by and grab a granola bar and leave me a dollar or two.
And that’s kind of where it started. I found that people actually liked them.”
